Chiropractic Care

Each joint within the body has a normal range of motion.  Some joints have an obvious large range of motion, such as the elbow. However, many of the joints in the body have a much more subtle range of motion, such as the vertebrae in the spine.

Chiropractic assessments focus on this normal range of motion to find areas of decreased mobility or restriction.  Restricted regions result in inflammation to the surrounding tissue and pressure in the nerves.  Some of the nerves that are affected are responsible for proprioception, which gives the body feedback about balance and movement.  A chiropractic adjustment uses specific high velocity, low amplitude manipulations to relieve restrictions in the joints to decrease the inflammation and allow proper nerve function.

Jade

Jade had an episode of neck pain causing her difficulty rising and turning her head to the left.
She receives regular chiropractic treatments to maintain her mobility and comfort.

What to expect…

The doctor will watch your animal move and palpate the bones and muscles as part of the examination.

Large dogs are often treated on the floor, while the smaller dogs and cats are often set up a little on a bale.  This allows the proper angle for the adjustments.  Some pets to lie down, while others prefer to stay standing.  They may wiggle around at first, not knowing what is happening, but then they usually relax right into it.  Chiropractic care for our pets is very gentle.

Horse treatments usually involve standing upon the bales to obtain the correct angles over the back of the horse.  They should be allowed to move freely after the session for best results.
